When asked what they would prefer, office workers in Ireland and Germany were most likely to choose a four-day work week over a salary increase. About 54 percent of Irish and German respondents in a survey among full-time office workers in eight different countries in 2021 chose a shorter work week. In comparison, 65 percent of Japanese employees chose a higher salary.

The survey sample included 4,000 full-time employees over the age of 18:
Remote workers: 1,124 (28%)
In-office workers: 1,767 (44%)
Flex workers (splitting time between working
remotely and in an office): 1,117 (28%)
