Neurath Power Plant was the biggest emitter in Germany in 2023, with emissions of 16.5 million metric tons of carbon dioxide (MtCO₂). Neurath Power Plant is a lignite-fired power station operated by RWE AG and was the second-largest emitter in the European Union in 2022. Seven of the ten most polluting installations in Germany were coal-fired power plants.
