In 2022, private health insurances bore around 37 percent of the total medical expenditure in South Korea that year. While the previous decade saw their share exceed 40 percent most years, that figure has since dropped below its starting point. The government's public health insurance program National Health Insurance takes up the majority of medical expenditure.
