In Eastern Africa, men were more present on social media than women. As of January 2024, 60 percent of the social media users in the region were men. However, the gap between genders closed yearly within the observed period. In 2020, 39 percent of the social media users were women, increasing to 41 percent in 2022 and 2023. A slight drop can be observed in 2024, where the share of women using social media in this region dropped to 40 percent.
