Since 2015, South Africa has had the largest number of start-up acquisitions, adding up to 35. Egypt followed with 22 acquisitions. Moreover, Nigeria and Kenya ranked third and fourth with 15 and nine start-ups, respectively.

According to the source, startups included here are those launched between 2002 and 2021. It adds that it does not claim to have identified all the tech startups that existed in the countries as some may have "slipped through the net".
