The harmonized index of consumer prices for energy in Spain fell slightly to 120.03 index points in April 2023. Over the past four years there has been notable fluctuation in energy prices in Spain. When the coronavirus pandemic reduced travel in Spain, fuel demand fell quickly, which resulted in a drop in the HICP for energy by mid-2020. Energy prices increased in late 2021 and early 2022 as a result of increased fuel demand and sanctions against Russian imports of fossil fuels. This has also been reflected in the overall HICP for energy in the EU.
