In a survey asking people in England and Wales what was the most negative impact on the water quality of rivers, 27 percent of respondents ranked untreated sewage from water companies as having the biggest impact. In the same survey, 57 percent of respondents ranked untreated sewage from water companies in their top three impacts. Non-flushable household items, such as wet wipes, sanitary products, and oils, was the second-highest ranked negative impact amongst respondents.
