In 2021, content spending among Europe's big five broadcasting companies was generally between one and two billion euros. Broadcasting company ARD/ZDF, however, spent nearly four billion euros on content that year.
Traditional broadcasting companies are facing increasing competition from globalized streaming services. In Europe in particular, where there is no single major European broadcasting giant, broadcasting companies in Europe's big five (Germany, Italy, France, Spain, and the UK) are competing to maintain traction in the market.
