The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) for energy in the European Union climbed to over 170 index points in October 2022. This was followed by a decrease in 2023 and 2024. Over the past four years, there has been a notable fluctuation in energy prices. In late 2021 and early 2022, rising fuel demand and the sanctioning of Russian fossil fuel imports brought about a rise in energy prices. This has also been reflected in the global weighted price index of energy.
