In the fiscal year 2020, over 45.6 thousand newly built zero energy houses were constructed by home builders. Overall, more than 62 thousand zero energy houses were newly built in Japan in that fiscal year.
Building contractors often are small, local companies, and customers have a high degree of freedom to design the house themselves. In contrast, house builders are bigger companies that usually have sales offices nationwide. Here, customers have less freedom in designing the home themselves as they choose from standard equipment and floor plans.
