In the Central and Eastern European region, the Baltics and Serbia had the highest number of bank mergers and acquisitions (M&A) deals between 2017 and 2022, with 15 completed transactions each. Romania ranked third, with 10 M&A transactions in the observed period. In 2022, besides the Baltics and Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia were among the most active countries, with two M&A deals each. In the observed time period, the Baltics and Serbia registered the highest number of bank M&A deals.
