Cape Town had the largest number of tech start-ups in South Africa. In 2021, nearly 46 percent of the tech start-ups were concentrated in the city. However, Johannesburg was competing closely with a share of around 42 percent. Furthermore, only 1.6 percent of the tech start-ups were operating from Durban, which amounted to eight businesses in absolute numbers.
