The private sector was the largest contributor to the Ghana Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) as of 2021. It covered roughly 63 percent of the contributions. Moreover, public institutions paid by the Controller and Accountant General's Department accounted for around 35 percent of the contributions. SSNIT is a statutory public Trust responsible for the basic national social security scheme in Ghana.
