According to India's fifth National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5), as of April 2021, about 28 percent of respondents smoked 10 to 14 bidis per day in India. In comparison, 4.4 percent of respondents smoked 25 or more bidis per day. Bidi is a type of cigarette made by manually rolling tobacco in a dried tendu tree leaf.
