By 2050, China is forecast to account for the largest share of global electrolyzer capacity, with 1,248 gigawatts. The worldwide capacity of electrolyzers is forecast to reach 3,075 gigawatts by that time. The European market is expected to become the second-largest in the same time span.
Electrolyzers produce hydrogen by breaking down water into its constituent parts in a process known as electrolysis. As electrolysis requires electricity, an electrolyzer powered by renewable energy would thus produce green hydrogen.
