Based on the report published in October 2021 by the Commission Independente sur les Abus Sexuels dans l'Eglise (Independent Commission on Sexual Abuse in the Church), there have been approximately 330,000 victims of sexual violence within the Church in France since 1950. After these revelations, the demand of French Catholics for a change within the religious institution was very strong. Among the possible actions to move towards this change, nine out of ten Catholics were in favor of the Church giving more responsibility to women. The older the respondents, the greater was their support.
