In 2021, the average number of prescriptions issued to general practitioners' patients in Italy affected by two or more chronic diseases was 26.9. This statistic highlights gender differences in this figure. Men suffering from multiple chronic diseases received on average more prescriptions than women did. Among people affected by at least two of such diseases, the use of concurrent pharmaceutical treatments was very common.
