In 2023, nuclear power contributed just 1.4 percent to the electricity mix in Germany. In the period of consideration, figures declined steadily. A particularly significant drop was recorded in 2011, following the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster in Japan, which caused the German government to revise its nuclear energy policy, scheduling the phase-out of existing plants. In April 2023, the last three nuclear power plants in the country were shut down.
