Global issuance of sustainability-linked bonds (SLBs) surpassed seven billion U.S. dollars in 2022. SLBs are a new and rapidly growing product class and unlike green bonds and social bonds, they do not have restrictions on how proceeds are to be used. In 2022, Europe issued a total of 402 billion U.S. dollars worth of SLBs.
