Between 1939 and 2020, the greatest number of wildfire fatalities in Australia were reported in 2009. That year saw 180 people lose their lives due bush fires. The majority were related to what came to be known as the Black Saturday bushfires in Victoria which lasted from February 7 to March 14, 2009.
