Since 2015, the revenue of Clifford Chance LLP has increased every year, growing by roughly 600 million British pounds in this period. In 2006, Clifford Chance accrued revenue of more than one billion British pounds for the first time. As Clifford Chance has grown both financially and logistically, it has become one of the top ten largest law firms in the United Kingdom and accordingly the world, both in terms of revenue and number of lawyers.

Global expansion

The origins of Clifford Chance can be traced back to the early 19th century in London. The firm has expanded continuously since then and following the opening of its New York offices in 1986 and a merger the following year, Clifford Chance LLP was born. Offices belonging to the law firm can now be found in regions all over the world and accordingly, Clifford Chance ranks amongst the law firms with the highest number of lawyers in the world.

A diversifying workforce

As Clifford Chance has expanded globally, its workforce has diversified. After becoming the first non-American firm to practice U.S. law in 1992, the Clifford Chance team in the United States has grown exponentially. In 2021, more than half of the business professionals working for Clifford Chance in the United States were non-white.
