Nearly 646.6 thousand Russian high school graduates took the Unified State Exam in the subject of the Russian language in 2022. Every graduate had to take Russian and mathematics exams. As for mathematics, the students could choose a basic exam or a test in mathematics as a major. The second option was for those who needed mathematics exam results for their planned field of study, such as physics, mathematics, or engineering. All other subjects were optional and were taken by students based on their future study plans. Most students took the Unified State Exam in three to four subjects.

Unified State Exam (Единый Государственный Экзамен, ЕГЭ) is a series of exams Russian high school graduates take in order to apply to universities. Russian and math exams are mandatory to take; other 1-3 subjects are usually determined by the field of study chosen by a student.
