In France, hexavalent vaccine are mandatory for children and must be administered from the age of 2 months. They protect against 6 diseases: diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio, hepatitis B and Haemophilus influenzae type B infections. The vast majority of children born in France in 2020 were thus immunized against these diseases with a hexavalent vaccine. This 6-in-1 vaccine has both an individual and collective protection objective (Herd immunity).
Since 2018, the hexavalent vaccination coverage (with at least one dose at 8 months) increased from 96.4 to 99.4 percent among children. Furthermore, roughly 90 percent of the cohort of children born in 2020 received at least three doses (at 21 months).

Among three cohorts of children born between January and March 2018, 2019, and 2020
Supplementary notes
A hexavalent vaccine, or 6-in-1 vaccine, is a combination vaccine with six individual vaccines conjugated into one, intended to protect people from multiple diseases. The vaccine is indicated for use at ages 2, 4, and 6 months.
The data analysis excluded the French departments for which the DCIR does not allow reliable estimates of vaccination coverage, due to the significant proportion of children vaccinated in PMI where vaccines are provided free of charge by the Departmental Council.
To limit the bias related to the fact that vaccinations provided free of charge in PMIs are not recorded in the DCIR, the data analysis excluded children who had no reimbursement for pentavalent or hexavalent vaccine in the first year of life, which does not does not allow calculation of vaccination coverage 1st dose of the hexavalent vaccine
