Brazil was the country recording the most electric vehicle sales in 2022, at some 49,300 EVs sold. The most popular vehicle type in Brazil was hybrid electric vehicles, which made up 82.9 percent of the sales. In terms of battery-electric vehicles, they were most popular in Mexico, where close to 3,500 sales were reported.

HEV refers to Hybrid electric vehicles, which function primarily using a petrol or diesel internal combustion engine, in combination with an electric propulsion system. PHEV refers to plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, which function primarily using rechargeable battery packs, in combination with a petrol or diesel internal combustion engine-powered generator. BEV refers to Battery-electric vehicles, which function exclusively with rechargeable battery packs.
Costa Rica did not report on its HEV and PHEV sales.
