More than nine out of ten respondents in China and Saudi Arabia thought the commitments undertaken at COP26 would have a positive impact on tackling climate change, according to a survey conducted in early 2022. Globally, considering all countries surveyed, 58 percent of respondents believed in a positive impact. Nevertheless, many in European countries such as Germany, Spain, and Great Britain were skeptical, with less than 50 percent of respondents optimistic about the outcome of COP26 commitments. In France, this figure was as low as 33 percent at the time.

* The source does not specify the number of respondents in each country. The sample refers to respondents who were aware of COP26 commitments.
The source states that: "Where results do not sum to 100, this may be due to computer rounding, multiple responses or the exclusion of don't knows or not stated responses."
The original question posed was: "Do you think the commitments made by countries to tackle climate change at COP26 will have a positive or negative impact on climate change around the world, or will it make no difference?".
Wording used in this statistic may slightly differ from the original.
