In 2021, around 72.6 thousand medical tourists underwent treatment in South Korea's capital Seoul. While the number of foreign patients had been steadily increasing over the years, this has been hampered by the beginning of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Between 2019 and 2020, the total number of medical tourists in Seoul decreased by over 79 percent.
