In the spring of 2021, the most common barrier related to communication experienced by people with disabilities, difficulties, or long-term health conditions in Canada was communicating by phone (43.1 percent). The second most common type of barrier was related to communicating with reading and understanding written materials (40.5 percent).
Overall, more than 70 percent of Canadians aged 19 and older with disabilities reported having encountered obstacles to accessibility in their interactions with federal public sector organizations in the past two years.

"For each type of barrier, respondents were asked to indicate how often they encountered it, either "never", "rarely", "sometimes", "often", or "always", or if it did not apply (i.e., the type of barrier was not relevant to their experience or condition). The overall calculation of barriers includes those who reported encountering at least one type of barrier "rarely", "sometimes", "often", or "always"."
