In 2023, Argentina had the highest Global Expression Report (GxR) metric score among Latin American and Caribbean countries. By contrast, Venezuela, Cuba, and Nicaragua had a score of ten or below and fell within the expression category "in crisis". On the GxR measure, a higher score indicates a more open society where there is greater freedom of expression, with a lower score implying more restrictions on expression.

The source adds the following information regarding the metric: The Global Expression Report’s metric (the GxR Metric) tracks freedom of expression across the world. In 161 countries, 25 indicators were used to create an overall freedom of expression score for every country, on a scale of 1 to 100 which places it in an expression category.
