According to the survey results, one of the most important environmental, social, and governance (ESG) reporting characteristic according to investors worldwide was that companies explain how ESG is relevant to their business model. Approximately 84 percent of surveyed investors were looking for this characteristic in 2021. As ESG related activities and products become more popular, investors have started to expect companies to be more transparent about the effect ESG activity has on their business. Overall, all characteristics ranked high, with having detailed information about progress made and a roadmap towards ESG targets being second and third most important.

An online survey was conducted using a group of 325 investment professionals across 43 territories. In addition, 40 in-depth interviews with investors and analysts in 11 territories who represent a combined assets under management of more than 14 trillion U.S. dollars was also completed.
