The number of POS payment devices available in South Africa increased by nearly 10 percent between 2021 and 2022, after two years of decline. Although the market share of cash within POS payments declined in South Africa, it remained the most popular offline payment method in the country in 2021. More noticeably, the market shares of both credit and debit cards barely increased between 2019 and 2021 - suggesting South Africans are using other means of payment.
