During the years 2018 and 2019, a total of 7,327 suicides were recorded in Italy among people aged 15 years and older, which is equal to a suicide rate of almost seven deaths per 100,000 inhabitants. This statistic shows regional differences in this figure. Aosta Valley was the region recording the highest suicide rate, with 17.12 deaths per every 100,000 inhabitants. Conversely, Campania was the region with the lowest number of suicides in relation to its population size. The suicide rate in the country was much higher among men than among women.
