According to a survey conducted in Japan in from October to November 2021, 59 percent of male high school students who watch anime had at least one favorite voice actor or actress. The share was almost similarly high among female high school students.

Specific ages of the respondents were not given. Japanese high school students are generally between the age of 16 to 18 with some outliers starting one year younger or graduating one year older.
Respondents who stated that they do not watch anime at all were excluded from the original survey sample size of 1,041 respondents.
