On average, some 60 percent of the population in Africa had a connection to an electric grid in 2021/2023. The proportion considered 39 countries surveyed on the continent. In the same period, nearly 70 percent of the surveyed population lived in enumeration areas served by an electric grid, with the accessibility rate being higher in urban areas. Similarly, the share of urban residents connected to the grid was higher, at 86 percent, against 35 percent among rural dwellers.
