In a survey conducted in the United States in June 2022, it was found that 87 percent of voters supported banning the sale of individuals' data to third parties without their explicit consent. This was one of the main provisions included in the draft of a new federal data privacy bill, the American Data Privacy and Protection Act. Among other conditions were requiring companies to minimize the data they collect on individuals, as well as increasing online data privacy protection for children under 17 years. Both requirements were supported by 86 percent of respondents.
