According to a survey conducted in September and October 2021, around 34 percent of Australian residents with a Chinese ancestry said they had been treated differently or less favorably because they were of Chinese heritage. At the same time, 18 percent of respondents indicated that they had been physically threatened or attacked because of their Chinese ancestry.
Chinese-Australian residents' experience of discrimination as of October 2021
Survey question:
"For each of the following, please indicate if you have, or have not, personally experienced it in the last 12 months in Australia."
The survey was conducted among 1,401 citizens, permanent residents, and visa holders (excluding tourist visa holders) in Australia who identified as having Chinese ancestry and had resided in Australia for at least one year.
