As of June 13, 2022, a total of around 80 million people in Japan received the first doses of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccination developed by Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE. The second doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccination were administered to approximately 80.2 million people.
The supply of vaccination in Japan began in February 2021, mainly for health professionals. In April 2021, the government started the vaccine administration for citizens aged 65 and older.
