As of 2021, nearly 71 percent of households in Ghana disposed of their wastewater by throwing it onto the ground, on the street, or outside their homes. Also, around 27 percent of households threw wastewater into drains and gutters, while roughly 11 percent drained wastewater into pits. Overall, very few households in the country used the sewerage system to dispose of wastewater.
