The first round of the legislative elections took place on Sunday, June 12th in France. The candidates of the presidential majority came out on top (25.75 percent of the votes cast), running neck and neck with the Nouvelle Union Populaire Ecologique et Sociale* (NUPES), a coalition of left wing parties (25.66 percent). The abstention rate was the highest ever recorded in a parliamentary election under the Fifth Republic, two points higher than in 2017.
