Number of golfers South Korea 2016-2023

In 2023, around 47.7 million people played golf on a golf course in South Korea. During the COVID-19 pandemic, golf gained tremendous popularity in South Korea since people could enjoy outdoor activities more easily than indoor ones.

A sudden rise in popularity

With the rise in the popularity of golf, the frequency of playing golf was surveyed to be around once a month. This not only included playing golf on a course but also screen golfing, a type of “indoor golf” in which people are able to play with a virtual simulation screen. Screen golf makes the sport more accessible to a wide range of people, and even younger people started enjoying this hobby. This can be seen in the rising number of young people in their 20s and 30s playing golf.

Golf wear for a better experience

There is an increasing interest in buying golf wear, as shown in a survey where more than half of the respondents stated that they purchased golf wear in the last six months. When looking at the average spending on golfing clothes, women tend to spend more money than men, especially women in their 30s. In general, people in their 40s spent the most on golf wear.
