ExxonMobil's Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions totaled 98 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO₂e) in 2023. This was roughly twice the emissions of Shell and Chevron, who produced 57 and 53 MtCO₂e, respectively. These three oil majors are among the biggest GHG emitters in history, and have together released more than 150 GtCO₂e into the atmosphere since the mid-19th century.
