In a survey realized in the third quarter of 2021, three quarters of respondents reported using third-party websites while in the process of acquiring a vehicle, making it by far the leading website type among car buyers. 56 percent of respondents also identified dealerships as a source they have used, while original equipment manufacturers were only utilized by a quarter of respondents.

The survey count included 1,998 new car buyers and 978 used car buyers. The vehicle bought or leased must have a vehicle year within the past five years.
