A survey in Latin American and the Caribbean countries showed that 40 percent of respondents believed a coup is justified when corruption is high as of 2021. Although the number is significant, it remains below the 52 percent peak recorded in 2004. Further, Peru had the highest level of tolerance of military coups due to corruption among all the Latin American and Caribbean countries surveyed.
