Visa's market share in Japan decreased eight percentage points between 2020 and 2021, as domestic credit card company JCB outpaced Visa. The latter briefly held the highest market share in Japan. The market share of cash money in Japanese POS transactions is declining - although still dominant at POS transactions as of 2020.
