In 2021, Russia exported goods worth 221.8 billion U.S. dollars to the United States and the European Union (EU). Of them, categories that were placed under trade sanctions over Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022 had a value of over 115 billion U.S. dollars. Furthermore, restrictions applied to several product categories that Russia imported from the United States and the EU, including luxury goods, oil refining equipment, and products that could benefit the Russian military. The total import value of sanctioned categories exceeded 29 billion U.S. dollars.
