Cost of recording artists' live performances for city administrations in Brazil 2022

Throughout the first half of 2022, a controversy regarding publicly funded live music performances gained momentum in Brazil. Sertanejo (country music) recording artist Gusttavo Lima, for instance, was hired for 800 thousand Brazilian reals to make a concert in São Luiz, Roraima. The performance alone would cost approximately 0.54 percent of the city's gross domestic product (GDP), according to the source. As of May 2022, São Luiz was home to around eight thousand people and had two hotels. The growth rate of Brazil's recorded music industry revenue stood at nearly 25 percent in 2020, above the Latin American average.
