Democratic candidate Raphael Warnock was the top fundraiser in the run up to the Georgia primary elections for United States Senate, raising over 206 million dollars. In this race, Warnock was the incumbent candidate and had served in the Senate since January 2021. His election was key to securing Democrats a Senate majority in 2020. Herschel Walker was the top fundraiser among Republican candidates, raising over 58 million dollars, trumping the next highest fundraiser, Republican Latham Saddler who raised just over four million dollars. Walker and Warnock both won their respective primaries. Neither of them were able to secure the necessary 50 percent of the vote at the general election in November, but after a run-off election on December 6th, Raphael Warnock secured re-election, giving the Democrats a 51-49 Senate majority.
In American politics, a battleground or swing state is any state that could reasonably be won by either Democratic or Republican party by a swing in votes from one party to the other.
