In 2022, the petrochemicals segment had the highest energy consumption within Canada's chemical industry, at some 51.52 petajoules. Ranking second and third were the segments of chemical fertilizers and other basic organic chemicals, with a consumption of approximately 55.92 and 49.31 petajoules, respectively. That same year, the total energy consumed by Canada's chemical industry amounted to some 263.51 petajoules.
