Support for biometric facial recognition as an alternative to traditional identification documents on domestic flight checks in the United States has grown slightly between 2019 and 2021. The share of survey participants who would opt for such technology increased by four percent between 2019 and 2021, from 43 to 47 percent. However, there was also a one percent increase in the share of respondents who were against using biometric facial recognition for such purposes in the same period.

The survey question was originally phrased by the source as follows: "If biometric facial recognition also were available for domestic flights and resulted in a speedier
journey (e.g., checking in, going through security, boarding the aircraft), would you prefer that over using a traditional boarding pass and identity document (e.g., passport, driver’s license)?"
