The producer price index (PPI) for coal mining in China stood at 154 index points in April 2022 for soft and hard coal and at 131.6 index points for lignite. The PPI increased throughout all of 2021 and 2022 and saw its greatest increase in October 2021 when compared to October 2020 prices. That month, China experienced a significant power shortage partly caused by a coal scarcity.
