At-berth emissions at the Port of Rotterdam totaled 640,000 metric tons in 2018. This was far higher than the at-berth emissions at other ports in Europe. The most polluting ship types for at-berth emissions are containerships and oil tankers.
At-berth emissions are included in total maritime supply chain emissions. The FuelEU maritime proposal, which is part of the EU's 'Fit for 55' package, aims to support the uptake of sustainable maritime fuels.
